Spring Wells Heritage Group - About Us

Spring Wells Heritage Group had its beginnings in a set of circumstances and a telephone conversation. The reason to be had arrived. Then two people interested in the goings on at Sempringham had a conversation. One became two and a group soon followed.

This group of individuals with various interests and backgrounds came together and decided over two meetings that they would formally go to others who may be interested and officially called our first annual general meeting for Tuesday 17th March 2009.

Spring Wells Heritage Group, made up of people from Pointon, Billingborough and the Fens in South Kesteven, Lincolnshire has arrived with the intention of learning about this area and its various histories and lifestyles:

  • The stories of the houses and families that once lived in them,
  • Past skills once used, events once experienced and times past from salt pans to the wars, from new beginnings to the gravestones,
  • Famous local 'names'including Saint Gilbert of Sempringham who founded the only English maonastic order, Captain Flinders the explorer of Australia who went to school in Horbling and Charles Worth from Billingborough who founded the famous Paris fashion house.

Whatever someone wishes to find out about, the Group will encourage them. In many different ways we seek to share the knowledge we find so that we may all benefit. In honouring our past we wish to grow in our appreciation of what we have inherited so that we may preserve it for the future in the most appropriate way.
